There is a really great site sponsored by Scholastic called "What's Your Book Print?" The premise is that each one of us is defined in some way by the books we've read. Check out the site to see the book prints of some famous and not-so-famous people. Add your book print to the site and see who else picked the same books as you! http://youarewhatyouread.scholastic.com/adults/
We'll be doing something at the school-level around this idea in the near future so keep an eye out for upcoming information!

Mystery? Not so much....
Hey, Bookwarms-R-Us! Apparently, the mystery genre wasn't something too many of you were excited about. That's okay, since there are tons of other choices for us to consider. There was some discussion about everyone reading the same book and you chose Beastly by Alex Finn, a retelling of the children's story Beauty and the Beast set in modern day New York City. Sounds really good! Here is a link to the movie that will be coming out in March of this year http://www.beastlythemovie.com/. Check out Alex Finn's site at http://www.alexflinn.com/html/beastly.html.
Our next meeting is Thursday, January 27th in the library during IA. See you all then!

Our first book club meeting (where we finally get to share the books we've been reading!)
Welcome Bookworms-R-Us! Yes, that's the official name for your group (sorry, I don't know how to make the "R" backwards!).
Here is a list of the books that were discussed at this meeting in the fantasy genre (and you gals REALLY love and know this genre!)
Book Discussion Question (BDQ): Pick one character from your book and tell how s/he changes throughout the story. Describe any defining moments or events that support these changes.
Our first discussion went well considering we just came back from break, but many of you had read a TON of books over that time period and not just this one for book club.
I hope the book covers were the same ones you were expecting since they often change over time. Since not all of us brought our book, I was left to guess at some of them.
For our next meeting on Thursday, January 13th......
Pick a book in the mystery genre and be ready to discuss the finer details next week! Happy reading!

Organizational Meeting #3: December 21, 2010
Hello Book Club Members!
Last night's meeting went well (from what I gathered). We still haven't decided upon a name yet so get your thinking caps on!
Some of you shared your favorite reads, but I didn't get to hear any of them :-(
You also selected the genre for our first read - FANTASY! Everyone will read a book of their own choosing in this genre (over break) so we can have our first real book discussion when we return in 2011.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 6, 2011 during IA in the Library. Happy reading and enjoy your holidays!

Organizational Meeting #2 - December 14, 2010
Hello Book Club Members!
We had our second organizational meeting during IA in the library. The agenda for the group members in attendance included the following:
- Reviewing the brainstorming notes from our first meeting
- Discussing genre vs. a single book for our first read (we're going with genre!)
- Checking out the Westhill Book Club blog!
We have some work to do before our next meeting on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 during IA in the Library:
- Bring your favorite book to share (or a picture if you don't actually have the book)
- Be prepared to vote on a group name (see the first post on this blog)
- We'll be selecting which genre we'd like for our first read (What's your favorite?)
- Bring two questions on index cards that can be used as conversation starters for our discussions (i.e., Who was your favorite character and why?)
- Decide on our first meeting date after the New Year
We will be looking at meeting on Thursdays after the New Year so as to minimize conflicts with other club activities. We'd like for all book club members to read a book of their choice (in the genre we select) over the Christmas break so we are ready to go for our first meeting.
If you can't make the next meeting, stop in to see Mrs. Fenner in the library or myself (my office is in Guidance) to get the latest. Better yet, keep connected through our blog! Post a comment and let the group know what you're thinking (Netiquette rules apply! This is a school-related blog; ergo, proper writing, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and common courtesy is expected in all posts.)
Looking forward to our next meeting!

Who Are We?
Welcome Westhill Book Club Members!
One of the most important tasks facing our new group is identifying ourselves to the larger school community. We need a name! Post your ideas for our new club name by December 17th and we'll vote on the winner at our next meeting. Be creative, be thoughtful, and have fun with it!
